Divinely Human

FROM THE INTRODUCTION:

I think of being human as a grand experiment of the soul: Is it possible to live as conscious matter, fully expressing and experiencing life as a human? And can we find ease and pleasure in being a complex integration of form and formless? Is it truly feasible to touch the infinite from the finite construct of our humanity? Can we stop fighting or resisting our life, our personality, our quirks and foibles, and just relax into being divinely human? Can we open the vastness of our hearts and the budding of our awareness to allow our flesh and bone, our mind and body, our brilliance and our yuck to fully participate in the awakening of consciousness and the evolution of life itself?

I don’t attempt to answer these questions in this small volume. What I propose is this: Let’s begin to turn toward ourselves with compassion and acceptance. Let’s quit casting ourselves out, kicking ourselves to the curb and generally being the internal judge, jury, and executioner of who we are and how we be in the world. Rather, let’s meet ourselves where we are, get to know the beauties and the beasts – rejecting none. From this practice of self-awareness and self-acceptance, we cultivate the possibility of freedom. When we truly know ourselves, when we are no longer avoiding what is behind the curtain, then – then, we have choice. And therein lies the freedom to be who we want to be in the world. When we quit hiding from ourselves, then we bring ourselves and our humanity more fully, authentically and divinely into the world.
